Chatty Spring Ballz
Voted best acoustic sculpture at Bay Area Aeolian Day, 2015!
Chatty Spring Ballz is an interactive kinetic exploration into the hidden acoustic world of small-scale steel, best heard through pressure transduction. Piezoelectric contact microphones are connected to lathe-wound springs, allowing them to sense small movement impulses and vibrations created from the collision of the high-tension spring steel materials. Unexpected dynamic sounds are the result.
Piezoelectric transducers connected to springs and buffered with inductors into a stereo 3.5mm connector.
Ballz in the making: 2.0
Initial prototype was using reverb springs from old speaker reverb systems.
